In order to teach class or hold an event at Redwood Raks you'll need liability insurance. This protects me and the assets of the studio from activities under your direction while you're teaching class or holding an event. Also, it's really a good idea to protect you from professional and general liablilities you face in offering your classes or event to the public.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
For special events, you can often include an "additional insured" onto a homeowner or renter insurance policy. Just call your company and see if it's possible. They'll probably ask for many details about the event or have a questionnaire for you to fill out, so be ready. Call (707) 616-6876 or email to learn more. You should do this well in advance, like at least 30 days prior to your event.
DANCE TEACHERS:
- This one is specially for dance teachers and is the company I've been using for years. It's about $300/yr and covers:
Professional Liability "claims made", Commercial General Liability, Personal/Advertising Liability, Damage to Premises Rented to you.
- As a dance teacher you join the IMA Group's International Dance Teacher's Association. The basic membership insures you for teaching 10 or less students and is $199 a year. The "upgrade" level allows you to teach 10-99 people and be covered, and for $10 each you can add "additional insured" locations that you teach at or even rent for performances. I always add all the studios at which I might be teaching, and my policy ends up being about $350.

- They offer a wonderful $50 credit for referrals of new people. I was able to pay for my whole policy that way last year.
- This place seems great, and is less expensive. I have no experience with them personally, except one phone call to make sure they were a good type of insurance company for teachers at Redwood Raks. They were very nice and helpful.
- It's designed more for fitness instructors, but dance teachers are accepted, too. It's about $210-250 depending on the policy you choose, and up to 10 additional insured are free (like Redwood Raks, etc).
